Just in from East LA....

According to an unofficial exit poll conducted by Ed's Tia Esperanza (she asked everyone in line who they were voting for), East Los Angeles should go solidly blue.

I was frankly stunned when my mom told me this story, and yet not surprised. I think for 2012, I'm going to demand she volunteers. She'll get out the Hispanic vote like nobody's business.

This was the fourth presidential election she voted in since becoming an American citizen. In '96 she voted for Perot. Somehow, they still let her vote after that.

But she was pretty fired up for this one. Maybe not as much as my aunt Teresa (a.k.a. Tia Nanny), but pretty excited nonetheless.

A couple of months ago, she was at the annual Mexican Independence Day parade in East L.A. sporting her Obama button.

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was the grand marshal, and when his car came up, my aunt ran out to the street to go shake his hand and hug him. Body guards quickly descended, but the Mayor waved them off when he saw her button.

Which led to Villaraigosa holding an impromptu rally right then and there. "Viva Obama!" he shouted. "Viva Obama!" the crowd shouted back.

(We'll just forget for a second that he was an ardent Hillary supporter. But I digress...)

So it went from my aunt almost getting tackled to the ground to a celebration.

Yep, this is my family.
